Nothing changes when you're on staff at the same company for 36 years! Frank is still being a loud, bossy Italian and picking out the best restaurants in town.
Austin is now 32 years old and working a company called Alpinestars that makes performance clothing & footwear for motorcycle, car, bike racing. I still remember when you knew I was pregnant because I gave you the rest of my cigarettes. You said, "You must be pregnant...no one quits in the middle of a pack.'
I'm healthy and have a good job so life is grand. My partner of 13 years is a creative director on the agency side so we have a lot of industry stuff to talk about. He's optimistic, witty and into music/art so he's a good balance for my producer brain. I'm grateful for him and my family and to be living in a country that is not constantly getting bombed (although if Trump gets back into office, we might be in big trouble). Fingers crossed for a win for Kamala!
Well, I’ve just come to the end of co parenting Milo and Reuben, 21 and 18. They’re healthy, beautiful and generally in fine shape. I’m very grateful for both, they changed my life and it’s been an amazing journey. So, after many years working in all sorts of shapes to keep a roof over their heads, I find myself here, living the dream of my life, writing, in pursuit of my bliss. I’m stepping into the unknown only knowing this is all I want to do for the rest of the blessing I have left.
Apart from that, I’d love to fall in love again and give that wild craziness one more spin. Still charging into this wild and wonderful life with a big open heart. What else is there, eh? X
Hi Alun, thank you for inviting me onto your Salmon Paths and for your opening story 🙏. You created beautiful wooden structures in my garden I admire every day, it’s a privilege to now read your thought/word creations… humbling and inspiring to be let in on your inner world, to savour your craft… lots to absorb! thank you xx
There is so much that spoke to me here (not the least pursuing writing while parenting a teen) - but I must let these words sink into my core so I might digest them properly first. I'll write a better comment then!
What a brilliant first post, Alun! A gorgeous introduction to you and your words, and I love the name you chose for your substack. Looking forward to reading more!
Nice one mate. I listened my preferred way. Very peachy, gona recommend to my mum. She’s a sucker for a sexy male voice and a good story.
Alun, it's beautiful to read your words about your backstory - gorgeous words, bravo! Looking forward to reading more x
Thank you X
Cheers dude.
Thank you Nancy. I've been reading yours this morning. Also half (white) Canadian, I have citizenship but never visited. The other half is Welsh.
Beautiful Alun! Lovely to hear your voice again after all these years. <3
Hey Tracie,
Thank you lovely. And for subscribing. Hope all's well with you in Tinseltown? X
